The first job of the Eco Council was to do an Eco-Schools Environmental Review. We went around the school answering a questionnaire to find out where we could improve and how we could be more eco-friendly.
From that, we came up with our Action Plan, here are our targets for the next term.
1 - Reduce water usage in the school. By making posters we will encourage the children to make sure that taps are turned off correctly and water bottles are only filled halfway. We will take meter readings to check how we are doing.
2. Increase the amount of wildlife in the school grounds. We will make bird feeders and bird boxes and habitats for bugs and insects. We will observe progress on a weekly basis.
3. Become better Global Citizens. We will raise awareness of global events in special assemblies, giving our friends a better understanding of what’s happening in the world.
4. As we are already a Platinum Eco School, we have been set a special challenge. The Platinum challenge we have been set, is to reduce the use of plastic food packaging being used in the community.
We will join up with Enterprise Club to make, market and sell reusable bags to parents and local people. The money made from this will help to pay for the fruit and vegetables we hope to plant next year.
