  • A message to our Pupils - Corona virus

    Fri 20 Mar 2020 Mr Morgan

    To all our fantastic Pupils,

    Today is a strange day for all of us at school. As you know from our assemblies and lessons at school there are some nasty bugs and germs about at the moment, which are causing lots of people to become very ill. The teachers and adults call this the ‘Corona virus’ but all you need to know is that it’s a germ that can cause lots of people to become very unwell.

    In school, we always try to teach you to do the right thing – even if sometimes that means making difficult choices. This isn’t just something for children, but adults also have to make these difficult choices too. There are lots of adults who help to run our country that have to decide what the best thing is to do to help everyone fight these germs and keep you safe!

    The adults who help run our country, including our Prime Minister, have decided that we will need to stay apart until things are better and we can all come back safely together to school again. These people think that they can look after us better, and find a cure quicker, if we stay apart for a little while. So we all have to be brave, just as we talk about in school, and do what they say.

    I know lots of you are worried about this bug, but don’t panic! Our fantastic doctors and nurses are working very hard to make people better and there are lots of people who are trying to find a cure to stop the bug.

    Your teachers will be teaching and caring for you in a different way for a little while. They will be communicating and setting you tasks online, and will be using Seesaw and Google Classroom to help you with your work and check on how you are feeling. Keep working hard, practicing your reading and numbers and try your best and talk about your worries. The grown-ups who are at home with you will understand if you are finding all of this a bit confusing or a bit difficult – everyone at school does too!

    I will be checking in with all the teachers to see how you are doing with your home learning tasks, and look forward to seeing all your fantastic work. While we are off, make sure you listen to the grown-ups who are at home with you, phone your grandparents or families and ask how they are and remember to be kind to each other. Make sure you help around the house, just like you do when you help in class and remember – this will only be for a short while. If you are worried – tell someone.

    Before you know it we will all be back at school learning, playing, and having fun together!

    From,

    Mr Morgan & everyone at school!

  • Spring Term - Happy New Year

    Mon 06 Jan 2020 Mr Morgan

    Dear Parent/Carer,

    Blwydden Newydd Dda! - Happy New Year!

    I trust that all of our Pupils and their families have had a fantastic Christmas full of fun and laughter, and are all ready to return to school for the term ahead. May I take this opportunity to once again thank all the Families of our Pupils for their support over the Christmas period. As always your support is very much appreciated.

    Spring Term is always a busy term at school with lots of exciting events and enrichment activities taking place, to continue supporting our Pupils learning. Again, I would encourage all Parents/Carers of our pupils to be partners with us as we continue to move forward together in giving all of our Pupils the best possible education we can. We also extend a warm welcome to our new Nursery pupils and their families who join us this term – I trust that they settle in well over the coming weeks.

    Attendance at school continues to be one of our priorities and we want to ensure that our Pupils are at school every day. We would encourage all our Pupils to be in school on time and as often as possible. Should your child need to miss school for any reasons, we ask that this is reported to the school office as soon as possible. A reminder that school starts at 9:00am (entry to school from 8:50am) and late marks are recorded for those arriving after registers have been taken at 9:00am. Registers close at 9:20am.

    • ONLINE DINNER PAYMENT

    As explained to you last term, Merthyr Tydfil Catering department have changed the way that dinners are paid for in all schools across Merthyr Tydfil, now requiring Parents to pay for and select their child’s meal online. Please note that the school is no longer able to accept cash payments for School dinners, and online payments via Parent Pay are now the only method of payment.

    • DATES FOR SPRING TERM

    On the website are all the dates for the term ahead. Please note that other dates may be added as the term goes on, and further information about these dates can be found on the school website. A reminder that school will be closed for INSET purposes on Monday 24th February 2020. Please note that Parents Evenings will again be held this term on Tuesday 10th March and Wednesday 11th March. Appointments will be booked online again, as in the Autumn Term.

    I look forward to continuing to work with you this term.

  • Class Dojo

    Fri 29 Nov 2019

    Dear Parent/Carer,

    As a school we continue to refine and improve our communication with Parents/Carers.

    We already make good use of Twitter and the school website, as well as regular letters and newsletters being shared with you.

    Please note that the school is now using the App 'Class Dojo' as our main Class communication tool. Using this app you will be able to keep up to date with news and events from school, as well as news and pictures from individual classes. It is a much more effective way of us keeping you up to date with what is going on in your child's class.

    The Class Dojo App can be downloaded on to mobile devices, as well as being accessed via the website www.classdojo.com

    As a result of this new communication platform, the Class Pages have been removed from the website.

    I trust you will enjoy using Class Dojo and be able to keep up to date with what is going on in class.

    Many thanks,

  • Winter Sickness Bug

    Wed 27 Nov 2019 Mr Morgan

    Dear Parent/Carer,

    As you may be aware, there is currently a winter sickness bug that is affecting a number of local schools within the area, including Trelewis Primary. The sickness bug tends to start as stomach pains, which then causes vomiting and/or diarrhoea in the first instance, but usually only lasts for a short period.

    The issue, as with any viral infection, is that due to the virus being able to change, it is possible that the sickness bug can be caught more than once, even if you have had it before. The other issue that we have with this particular ‘bug’ is that as it is an airborne virus it is very hard to control it. Given that children are all in close proximity with each other at school, it does mean that it can be easy for the bug to be passed on.

    I want to reassure you that as a school, we have been in touch with Public Health and the Health and Safety department at Merthyr Tydfil CBC, and are doing all we can in school to ensure that we are able to try and limit the effects of this virus in school.

    Strategies in place include:

    • Increased daily deep cleaning routines, with use of anti-viral cleaning products;
    • Toilets checked at start, middle and end of the school day ensuring there is plenty of soap and paper towels available;
    • Reinforcing 48 hours rule with all pupils who have been ill or shown signs of sickness
    • Single use of cleaning products which are thrown away after use to prevent cross contamination
    • Alco-gel sanitisers available in all classes

    We would ask for your support at this time, in trying to minimise the impact of the sickness bug by ensuring that you do the following;

    • If your child has symptoms of sickness/diarrhoea, please keep them off school for 48 hours (48 hours must be from the last instance of illness). If your child is off with sickness and returns to school within 48 hours, we will phone for your child to be collected.
    • If your child is ill and has siblings who are also at school, try to limit contact so that we limit the possibility of the virus being brought into school by the siblings.
    • Ensure that you reinforce the importance of good hygiene and hand washing with your child – plenty of soap and hot water is fine. You don’t need to spend money on expensive alco-gel sanitisers.
    • Keep hydrated and ensure your child has plenty of fruit and vegetables which will help their body to fight infections. Likewise, multivitamins can give children an extra boost during the winter months.

    Hopefully with these extra measures in place we can try to limit the impact of this sickness bug at this time. Many thanks for your support,

  • Autumn Term 2019

    Wed 04 Sep 2019 Mr Morgan

    Dear Parent/Guardian,

    Welcome back to all our Pupils and their families to another academic year at Trelewis Primary School. We also extend a special welcome to our new pupils in Nursery and their families, who join us this term. I trust that over the summer holiday period you have had chance to relax and spend quality time with your children. I’m sure that our Pupils have been taking part in lots of lovely different activities over the summer break and I know that they will all be given an opportunity to share what they have been up to as part of their morning mindfulness sessions this week.

    From the outset I would like to continue to encourage all the parents/carers of our pupils to get involved with the life of the school. Our aim at Trelewis Primary School is to be a school where ‘Parents are Partners’ in the learning process, providing our pupils with the best possible education. The Parents of our pupils continue to show us lots of support, and we look forward to this continuing in this new academic year.

    Your child will have been provided with a “Welcome Guide” to their new class. In this guide you should find a range of useful information regarding Class routines that should help your child to settle into their new class. Please note that a ‘Meet the Teacher’ evening has been organised for Tuesday 10th September at 15:45pm where you can meet your child’s teacher and find out other useful information specifically about your child’s new class.

    On the website you will find a list of initial dates and events taking place this term. Further details and extra events will be added as the term goes on. We will again be promoting good pupil attendance this year. A useful ‘Home-school Attendance Tracker’ has been provided along with this letter so that you can keep track of your child’s attendance over the year. I trust you find this useful.

    Once again, I look forward to continuing to work alongside you and your child/ren as we continue to provide an education for all our pupils that allows them to ‘Reach for the Stars!’
